Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins was recently selected to join Governor–elect Charlie Baker’s transition team Community Committee.

Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins has been chosen to join the transition team for Massachusetts Governor–elect Charlie Baker.

Sheriff Tompkins will serve on the Community Committee, joining committee co–chairs Robert Lewis, Jr. of “The Base” and Chrystal Kornegay, President and CEO of Urban Edge, along with an impressive array of community and business leaders.

Speaking about his appointment, Sheriff Tompkins expressed his appreciation and talked about his hopes and expectations for the new governor.

"I am both honored by the appointment and excited about the opportunity to help move Massachusetts even further along," said Sheriff Tompkins. "Governor–elect Baker has already shown a willingness to reach across the aisle with his cabinet selections and I look forward to working with him."

According to members of both the transition team and office staff, the feeling is mutual.

“I think Sheriff Tompkins is a great pick to join the transition team,” said Community Committee Co–chair Robert Lewis, Jr. “His efforts to strengthen the communities of Suffolk County through reentry and rehabilitation services, and his focus on education and employment will be important assets to tap into moving forward.”

"We are honored to have Sheriff Tompkins join the governor’s transition team,” agreed Baker Senior Advisor Jim Conroy. “The sheriff brings a wealth of experience and commitment to our efforts. We look forward to working together for the benefit of the entire Commonwealth."

The other advisory transition committees include: Better Government, Healthcare, Human Resources, Jobs and Economy, Schools, and State of the State.
