My department is committed to protecting the rights of victims. The primary goal of the Victim Services Unit is to ensure that victims of crime, their families, and other concerned individuals have access to information and assistance concerning offenders in the custody of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department. We appreciate and respect the need for confidentiality and compassion when dealing with victims of crime.

The Sheriff’s Department is represented on various community groups and taskforces. We are committed to working with and educating the communities of Suffolk County on the services and resources that we provide. Services Offered by the Victim Services Unit

  • Notification of an offender’s release or transfer
  • Information regarding the offender’s incarceration
  • Safety planning
  • Crisis intervention
  • Referrals to community resources and services
  • Assistance with CORI certification
  • Community outreach and information sharing

When to Contact Victim Services

  • If you are receiving unwanted contact from the offender by telephone calls or letters
  • If you have any questions or concerns about the offender’s sentence or release date
  • If you believe that your were not properly notified
  • If you have questions about your rights to be notified
  • If you would like to be certified for notification
