On the second half of the show, host Steve Tompkins talks with Whittier Street Health Center (WSHC) president and CEO Frederica Williams.
The Sheriff asks about the move to the newly constructed center built behind the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center on Tremont Street in
Roxbury. Ms. Williams talks about the benefits of the new health center and some of the programs they offer. Some statistics to note: 60% of WSHC patients live below the poverty and 46% of their patients identify as African American and 47% as Latino. WSHC currently serves approximately 25,000 patients representing 20 different countries. In FY 2013, WSHC provided close to 100,000 clinic visits and an additional 20,000 community outreach and education encounters. WSHC is the only health center in Boston federally funded to provide primary care to residents of public housing, addressing their health and social service needs.
