DESCRIPTION:   During the second half of the show, host Steve Tompkins talks with Howard Manly, Executive Editor for the Bay State Banner about the mission of the newspaper and the overall role of journalism in reporting the news. Steve and Howard discussed the significance of February as Black History Month while looking at some of the key historical African Americans throughout history. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history.
