The Communications and External Affairs Division
oversees all community outreach efforts on behalf of the Sheriff ’s
Department. The goal of this division is to develop healthy media
relations, increase
community accessibility and deliver the Sheriff ’s public safety
message. Chief Steve Tompkins has more than 20 years experience
in communications, marketing, promotions, media production and public
affairs, most recently as Director of Marketing and Public Affairs
for the Dimock Community Health Center. Before working at Dimock,
he spent ten years at AT&T/Media One/Continental Cablevision
where he produced scores of television programs, public service announcements
and industrial packages. While at AT&T, he also served as a member
of the communications cadre for the Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA) where he was a field producer for the agency’s
internal television network and press liaison for FEMA’s New
England Region.
