| Volunteers and interns provide a variety of services to offenders
in Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department custody. Volunteer coordinators
screen and train volunteers from academic, social service or spiritual
backgrounds to provide a variety of programs and meet the specific
needs of detainees at the Suffolk County Jail and inmates at the
House of Correction.
Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department volunteers come from a
variety of different backgrounds and provide an essential public
service to offenders in custody. Representatives from the following
groups volunteer: Alcoholics Anonymous, ABCD – Breast Health
Care, Boston College, Boston Healthy Start, Emmanuel College, Father
Friendly Initiative, Narcotics Anonymous and Positive Directions,
Inc., Ruah – Transitional Integration, SPAN, Inc./TIP.
The Sheriff’s Department also partners with local colleges
and education partners in an internship program. Interns participate
in a variety of different dimensions throughout the Department for
academic credit.
