SHERIFF TOMPKINS, DEPARTMENT JOIN MOTHER’S WALK FOR PEACE

Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins took part in the Annual Mother’s Day Walk For Peace with a group of supporters from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department.

Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins and members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department recently participated in the 18th annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace.

Sponsored by the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, the Mother’s Day Walk for Peace is a fundraising event that was created to support the programs and services of the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute.

The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, which was founded in 1994 following the murder of 15–year–old peace activist Louis D. Brown, is a non–profit organization dedicated to educating young people and the community about the value of peace and assisting survivors of homicide victims with immediate crisis management services and ongoing support. The Institute serves as a healing center, a training resource and an education program for the City of Boston and surrounding communities.

During the Walk, Sheriff Tompkins spoke about his desire to participate in the event and about his support for the work of Clementina Chéry, President and CEO of the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute.

“I’m very happy to support the work that Clementina is doing with the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute,” said Sheriff Tompkins. “There are so many young people that benefit by being a part of these programs, and there are many people in our facilities that could have also benefited from that early support. The [Louis D. Brown] Peace Institute is providing a critical service to the community and I’m happy to contribute in any way I can to ensure that it remains a thriving organization for those who need it.”
