Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins presents a video clip with El Mundo Newspaper’s Publisher Alberto Vasallo at the annual El Mundo Newspaper Professional Mixer at the Marriott Courtyard in Boston.

Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins recently attended El Mundo Newspaper’s Annual Professional Mixer, held at the Marriott Courtyard in Boston.

One of the premier Latino networking events of the year, the Professional Mixer brings out hundreds of community leaders from the public and private sector to network and hear from featured guests as they speak about important topics of the day.

Guest speakers for this year’s Professional Mixer were Boston Mayor Martin Walsh and Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera, who both spoke to the theme: “Boston and Lawrence: Majority –Minority Cities. How a diverse population affects public policy.”

During the event, El Mundo Publisher Alberto Vasallo invited Sheriff Tompkins onstage to introduce a video clip from El Mundo’s past Hispanic Heritage Breakfast, which he also attended back in October of 2013.

Following the Mixer, Sheriff Tompkins spoke about the significance of such events with respect to civic engagement and networking among concerned citizens.

“I’m glad to be here to support El Mundo, because events like these are where other community leaders can meet with likeminded folk and talk about the important issues of the day,” said Sheriff Tompkins. “The only way that we’ll be able to make real and positive change in our neighborhoods is by working together, and this is a great opportunity to begin that process.”
