Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins (not pictured) was one of many attendees who the Installation Service for Reverend Liz Walker at Roxbury Presbyterian Church.

Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins recently visited the Roxbury Presbyterian Church to attend the Service of Installation for Reverend Liz Walker. The service inaugurates Reverend Walker to the position of Designated Pastor at the Roxbury Presbyterian Church, where she has served as transitional leader since 2011.

The church was filled with members of the community and religious leaders from other churches and organizations in addition to political leaders such as Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, former Mayor Tom Menino, Boston Police Superintendent In–Chief William Gross, and City Councilors Ayanna Pressley, Tito Jackson, and Michelle Wu.

The service included a number of performances and presentations including community reflections, a sermonic dance performance, songs sung by the Roxbury Presbyterian Church Combined Choirs, and a musical selection from the newly installed Pastor’s son, Nik Walker.

While presenting the Ministry of the Word, Co–Pastor of Bethel AME Church Reverend Gloria White–Hammond explained what makes Reverend Walker invaluable as a spiritual leader.

“She doesn’t lead with her celebrity, she leads with her humility”, she said.

Sheriff Tompkins expressed his happiness in seeing Reverend Walker become a more permanent fixture at the Roxbury Presbyterian Church, and therefore, an even more influential part of the Roxbury community as a whole.

“I think Reverend Walker has been a great resource to the Roxbury Presbyterian Church and the community in which it sits,” said Sheriff Tompkins. “She’s a wonderful person and leader, and does so much for others without acknowledgement. Hopefully, her example will encourage others in the Roxbury community to do the same. She has the passion that’s needed to make people want to do better. I congratulate her on her recent induction, and know she will do well as the Designated Pastor of this lively church.”
