SHERIFF TOMPKINS PRESENTS AT EL MUNDO’S HISPANIC HERITAGE BREAKFAST

Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins delivers his presentation at El Mundo Newspaper’s Annual Hispanic Heritage Breakfast.

Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins recently took part in El Mundo Newspaper’s Annual Hispanic Heritage Breakfast, held at the Revere Hotel in Boston.

The event, which is part award ceremony and part comic roast, is held each year in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Joining Sheriff Tompkins at the head table and taking their comedic turns at the dais were: host and Master of Ceremonies Alberto Vasallo, III of El Mundo Newpaper; State Treasurer and gubernatorial candidate Steve Grossman; State Senator Linda Dorcena Forry; State Representatives Martin Walsh (a candidate for mayor of Boston) and Jeffrey Sanchez; Boston City Councilors John Connolly (also a Boston mayoral candidate), Ayanna Pressley, Felix Arroyo, Jr., Matt O’Malley and Tito Jackson; MBTA General Manager Dr. Beverly Scott; National President of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting Yvonne Garcia; and former U.S. Senate candidate Gabriel Gomez.

“I’m proud to be standing with my Latino brothers and sisters and my friends at El Mundo,” said Sheriff Tompkins. “This is a great opportunity to share some lighthearted fun with my colleagues and also honor some truly special people.”

Among those honored by El Mundo were Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, who was named the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Boston Marathon bombing hero Carlos Arredondo, who was the event’s Special Honoree. Boston Red Sox baseball legend Louis Tiant was also one of several guests recognized at this year’s celebration.
