SHERIFF TOMPKINS SPEAKS AT ANNUAL BUNKER HILL DAY BREAKFAST, WALKS IN BUNKER HILL DAY PARADE

Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins attended the annual Bunker Hill Day Breakfast and walked with other members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department in the Bunker Hill Day Parade this past weekend.

Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins spoke at the annual Bunker Hill Day Breakfast and walked in the Bunker Hill Day Parade, both held in commemoration of the 238th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill.

The breakfast, which was sponsored by the Bunker Hill Associates, included – along with Sheriff Tompkins – a number of other speakers from elected office such as Charlestown/North End City Councilor Salvatore LaMattina, and State Representative Gene O’Flaherty.

Other elected offices represented included political figures from City Council, the State Senate and State House of Representatives in addition to several candidates for Mayor of Boston and Boston City Council.

During his address, Sheriff Tompkins spoke about the Care, Custody, and Control of inmates and detainees – one of the five initiatives he has focused on since he was appointed as the Sheriff.

“A person leaving our care is going to return back to their neighborhood and community either the same, worse, or better than when they came in,” said Sheriff Tompkins. “It’s my mission to try and see to it that they come back into society better than when they came into our facilities.”

The event preceded the Bunker Hill Day Parade, also attended by Sheriff Tompkins and members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, both of which helped to conjure up some Charlestown pride for all who came out.
