Sheriff Cabral (center) recently honored several SCSD employees for their service in the armed forces.

Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea J. Cabral recently held a special luncheon and ceremony to recognize those Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department employees who have performed in the service of the United States of America as members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Branches of U.S. military service represented by Sheriff’s Department employees included the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Army National Guard, Air National Guard and Merchant Marines.

SCSD employees recognized at the ceremony included: Nicholas Adams (Army National Guard), Leo Boudreau (Army), Marvin Lamarre (Army), Stanley Martin (Army), Matthew Mullen (Marines), Michael O’Day (Marines), Eric Washington (Army), Julie Wilder (Army), Jesse Wilensky (Army), Charles Abate (Air Force), and Paul DeFazio (Army).

Those honored were presented by Sheriff Cabral with American Flag pins with special recognition denoting veterans who served in combat, and certificates of appreciation for service in the United States military.

“In the ten years that I’ve been the Sheriff of Suffolk County, about a third of the people that we’ve hired have been veterans from all branches of military service,” said Sheriff Cabral. “You give up a lot and leave a good, steady job to serve your country and we are very mindful of that. You literally put your lives on the line for us and we are grateful. This luncheon and these pins and certificates are just a little way of saying, ‘thank you for your service.’”

The veterans receiving recognition from Sheriff Cabral hail from each of the Department’s facilities, which include the Suffolk County House of Correction, the Nashua Street Jail and the Chelsea Officers Training Academy.
