SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT TAKES A “RACE UP BOSTON PLACE”

A team comprised of members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department recently competed for the third consecutive year in the American Lung Association’s (ALA) “Race Up Boston Place” fundraiser event.

Led by Superintendent of the House of Correction Gerard Horgan, the Department’s team of eight ran up the Mellon Financial Center building’s eighty–two flights of stairs – equaling forty-one floors – to compete with twenty–four other teams vying for the best posted time.

The Department’s entry finished a respectable thirteenth, and the team of Superintendent Horgan, Assistant Deputy Superintendent of Program Services Julie White, Director of Women’s Services Christina Ruccio, Captain Owen Julius, Sergeant Dave Stock, Corporal Eddie Eames, and Officers Leo Boudreau and Jimmy Keogh, raised almost $500.00 for ALA’s program services.

Coming in first in his age group for the second time in three years, Supt. Horgan also bested 381 other runners, placing tenth overall against a field of 391 competitors.

Though his achievements were impressive, to say the least, Supt. Horgan was quick to deflect praise toward the Department team as a whole for their participation on behalf of the ALA.

“The Sheriff’s Department is honored to be part of such a worthwhile charitable effort. It is good to see employees of all different ranks and positions coming together to work as a team. Our team did very well. Our team came in 13th place overall and got the top law enforcement finisher award. ADS White, Capt. Julius and Sgt. Stock all lowered their times from last year. Director Ruccio, Cpl. Eames, Officer Keogh and Officer Boudreau all recorded impressive times and made it through their first climb in great shape. I hope that even more employees join us next year at this competition.”
