The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department has filed a criminal
complaint with the Boston Municipal Court (BMC) against detainee John
Tibbs based on charges relating to his alleged possession and intent
to distribute what are alleged to be controlled substances inside the
Nashua Street Jail (NSJ).
The charges, filed on Monday, December 17th stem from the
discovery of substances alleged to be cocaine and heroin by
custody employees of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department
upon Tibbs’ return from Suffolk Superior Court on October
19th, 2007.
While conducting routine searches of detainees returning from court,
NSJ officers in the booking area discovered a knotted balloon containing
two packets with substances believed to be heroin and cocaine with quantities
amounting to 8.69 grams and 5.39 grams respectively. The balloon was found
among photographs in an envelope box in Tibbs’ possession at the time.
A subsequent investigation by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Investigative
Division led to official charges filed in BMC.
Tibbs will be arraigned on these charges in Boston Municipal
Court on December 28th.
