Boston- Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea J. Cabral received
warm welcomes across Boston Tuesday, August 1, at sites of
Boston’s 2006 National Night Out. After attending the
Coffee with the Chiefs at Fenway Park, Sheriff Cabral rode
in the cavalcade with Boston Mayor Tom Menino, Acting Police
Commissioner Albert Gosin, officers from the Sheriff’s
Department and Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit, officers
from the Boston Police Department, and others, to visit National
Night Out celebrations in China Town, the South End, Jamaica
Plain, Dorchester, and Roxbury.
Volunteers from the Sheriff’s Department also took
part in National Night Out activities. With the help of Judith
Wright, Director of the Boston Police Department Crime Watch
Unit, and Joe Porcelli, Civilian Community Service Officer
for the Boston Police Department, the Sheriff’s Department
was able to set up tables at all twelve National Night Out
sites in Boston. Officers and civilian staff handed out safety
tip coloring books and plastic junior deputy badges to children
and also provided child ID fingerprinting for parents to
take home in case of an emergency.
“National Night Out is such a wonderful event,” said
Sheriff Cabral. “It is so encouraging to see members
of the community coming out and coming together, despite
the heat, to show their support for peace. I’m honored
to be able to be a part of this.”
