SUFFOLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT HIRES SANDY ZAMORE CALIXTE TO JOIN EXTERNAL AFFAIRS DIVISION

Boston – Sandy Zamor Calixte has joined the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department to further the Department’s community outreach efforts, working out of the Office of Communications and External Affairs.

Calixte has been hired as Coordinator of External Affairs. Though she has a background in criminal justice, having earned a Masters in the subject from Northeastern University, Calixte’s focus will be on activities outside the prison walls rather than within. She will work closely with a number of social, civic, criminal justice, education and faith–based organizations to foster the Department’s message of public service and personal responsibility. She will also oversee Sheriff’s Department programs, including the Elderly ID program, Directions for Corrections, a quarterly town forum series looking at important issues pertaining to public safety the Departments Internship program and the Choice program, a Department initiative wherein an officer’s cadre was created to visit schools in Suffolk County to discuss gangs, peer pressure, planning for the future, and making smart choices with students.

Calixte’s involvement in her community does not begin with her joining the Sheriff’s Department. She belongs to several community organizations, including the Young Professionals Network of the Urban League and Communities of Color. She is also an active member of Community Area B3 meetings, has been a peer coordinator for the John D. O’Bryant African American Institute, and is the former president graduate advisor for the Haitian Club of Northeastern University. Calixte’s involvement and her previous work as an investigator for the Department of Industrial Accidents and the Department of Treasury make her an ideal candidate for working with the many neighborhoods of Boston and Suffolk County to identify the common concerns of residents and work effectively to address them.
