Boston- Sheriff Andrea J. Cabral announced today that Matthew O’Malley
joins the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department on Monday, January 30. O’Malley
will be the Sheriff’s Director of Legislative Affairs.
A graduate of George Washington University, where he earned degrees
in English and Political Science, O’Malley clerked for a Washington
DC Ward Councilor and was a legislative aide for former Boston City
Councilor Peggy Davis-Mullen. He has twice been a candidate for
Boston City Council and managed the Sheriff’s successful election
campaign in 2004. He sits on the boards of the Jason Roberts Challengers
League, the Ward Fellowship and Project Hope, and has raised more
than seven thousand dollars for Children’s Hospital as a member
of the Kids-at-Heart marathon team.
“Matt has built solid relationships and has credibility with
Suffolk County’s legislators. He understands the complexities
of the legislative process and is skilled at building consensus
among diverse groups. The work of the Sheriff’s Department
affects every community in Suffolk County. We have ambitious goals
and I welcome Matt as a strong, committed advocate to help achieve
them,” Sheriff Cabral said.
As Director of Legislative Affairs, O’Malley will be responsible
for working with elected officials in Boston, Chelsea, Winthrop
and Revere to further the legislative, fiscal and public safety
goals of the Sheriff’s Department. He will be the Sheriff’s
liaison to the Massachusetts Sheriff’s Association, community
and civic groups.
O’Malley is thrilled about his new position and is looking
forward to getting started on Monday. “I’m excited about
this opportunity,” he said. “Sheriff Cabral and I share
very similar goals and I look forward to working with her to improve
the Sheriff’s Department and the communities it serves.”
