Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea J. Cabral
and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department participated in
the Annual Suffolk County Winter Clothing Drive last month to support
local organizations throughout Suffolk County. Through the generous
support of Sheriff’s Department employees, more than 900 items
of winter clothing and blankets were donated to local charities including
the Pine Street Inn, Rosie’s Place and the Lemuel Shattuck
Shelter. Over 200 children’s items were donated to the St.
Mary’s Women and Infants Center.
The Office of Communications & External Affairs at the Sheriff’s
Department coordinated the effort with employees and community
organizations. Through close coordination with the organizations
that were receiving the clothing, the Department was able to distribute
the clothes efficiently.
Sheriff Cabral began the Winter Clothing Drive last year at the
Sheriff’s Department to help address the great need throughout
Suffolk County for winter clothing and supplies for the homeless
and needy. Since the price of oil is so high this year there is
an even greater need for donations of warm clothing and supplies.
