SUFFOLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT BEGINS OUTREACH INITIATIVE

Boston, MA—Deputy Tom DeRosa, the Community Affairs Officer at the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, visited the Mission Hill Middle School to speak to seventh and eighth graders about making the right choices. The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department will be visiting schools throughout Suffolk County to educate students about the Sheriff’s Department and remind them that their decisions have consequences.

Deputy DeRosa also informed the students about the Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (C.O.R.I.) law. The C.O.R.I. law makes criminal records available to many agencies such as employers and housing authorities, making it difficult for people with criminal records to transition back into the community upon release from incarceration.

With the recent increase in crime throughout Suffolk County, the Sheriff’s Department recognizes the importance of educating students at a young age about the advantages of a crime-free life.
