On behalf of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Andrea J. Cabral today donated thousands of dollars worth of surplused woodworking power tools to Youthbuild Boston, an organization that provides comprehensive job training to inner city youths.

"This equipment will give young people the opportunity to learn a trade and find decent, dependable jobs," said Sheriff Cabral. "We are delighted to be part of a program that provides young adults with the training and options needed to be valuable contributors to the community."

The power tools were originally purchased for the Suffolk County Jail when the facility first opened 10 years ago to build furniture for use within the facility. The equipment, in nearly new condition, was offered to other government agencies before being declared surplus property. /p>

"It's important for YouthBuild Boston to work with partners from both the public and private sectors to build our infrastructure. These donated tools will be put to good use helping community residents get the job training and skills they need so that they can succeed in the workforce," said Ken Smith, Executive Director, YouthBuild Boston.

The following items were donated: Delta 20 inch planer; Delta dust collector; four Delta 55-gallon drums for dust collection; Delta edge jointer; and, a Trinco dry blaster.
