Bob Romanow, owner of Frugal Book Store in Roxbury, donated 50 brand
new books authored by African American writers to the Suffolk County
House of Correction prison library.
“We are grateful to community-minded business leaders such
as Bob Romanow, who see the benefit of providing educational materials
to offenders,” said Sheriff Andrea J. Cabral.
The library, which contains nearly 26000 volumes of work on various
subjects, is used daily by the 1500 offenders at the South Bay prison.
Romanow is active in community affairs, recently helping to save
the Timilty Middle School extended school program.
His stores, Frugal Furniture and Frugal Book Store, are located
in Roxbury and Mattapan. The companies employ people from the community
in management as well as in staff positions. They were established
four years ago with a mission to work closely with the community
to its mutual betterment.
