ROSLINDALE RESIDENTS JOIN SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT - GRADUATE FROM ACADEMY TRAINING

Correction Officers Timothy Lenane and Brian McManus of Roslindale were graduated Oct. 3 from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department Training Academy during ceremonies at Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown.

“I am confident that the men and women who graduate from the Training Academy are among the best-trained corrections officers in the Commonwealth. It is my goal to continue to raise the standards of training and professionalism in the corrections industry,” said Sheriff Andrea J. Cabral.

As part of the 5-week training course, the officers’ curriculum included daily physical training and defensive tactics; classroom instruction in Department policies and procedures, firearm safety and handling, CPR, suicide prevention, fire safety, evacuation plans, courtroom testimony, ethics and professionalism, inmate education, interpersonal communications, and inmate rights and responsibilities.

Officers are not only charged with the safety and security of those in custody, but provide counseling, education, training and mentoring to detainees and inmates.

Recent graduates will begin their role as correction officers at the Suffolk County House of Correction in South Bay, or as jail officers at the Suffolk County Jail on Nashua Street in Boston.

(Editor’s Note: Photos of the graduates are available via email. Please call 617-989-6672 if you would like us to send you the digital file.)
