Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea
J. Cabral named Julie M. White as the new Director of the Women's
Resource Center in Jamaica Plain.
"Julie has extraordinary skills as an advocate for women's
issues in a criminal justice setting. Her enthusiasm and experience
as a clinician and social worker makes her eminently qualified to
advance the mission of the Resource Center," said Sheriff Cabral. "I
am very pleased Julie has accepted the position and I know that she
is prepared to handle the challenges ahead."
White currently serves as the mental health clinician with Correctional
Medical Services (CMS), the medical services provider for the Suffolk
County House of Correction at South Bay. A Licensed Independent Clinical
Social Worker, White graduated from Syracuse University with a Master's
Degree in Social Work and Advanced Graduate Certificate of Women's
Studies. She has been a Clinical Coordinator for the Forensic Access
to Community Services Program in West Roxbury; a mental health clinician
for CMS at MCI-Framingham, a state-operated prison for women, and
at the Essex County House of Correction in Middleton.
White, a resident of Jamaica Plain, has also provided services to
the Tri-City Mental Health and Retardation Center in Waltham, where
she attended to the substance abuse and mental health needs of homeless
men and women. Prior to receiving her master's degree, she was an
assessment specialist in Rochester, N.Y., and was a transitional
counselor to survivors of domestic violence.
White succeeds Mary Ellen Mastrorilli, who was recently named Deputy
Superintendent of the Suffolk County House of Correction. "With
Julie's correctional background, clinical expertise, and experience
with female offenders, she is uniquely qualified to maintain public
safety while making the Center's treatment program stronger," said
Dep. Supt. Mastrorilli.
The Women's Resource Center opened in Jamaica Plain in 2001 as the
first day reporting center of its kind in the nation. Offenders receive
services that are tailored to the specific needs of women, and focuses
on employment, drug treatment and parenting. Professional case managers
closely monitor offenders. The center can serve 50 offenders and
is jointly staffed by the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department, the
Department of Parole and Department of Probation, and the Office
of Community Corrections.
