SUFFOLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT
DELIVERS HUNDREDS OF WINTER CLOTHES TO
LOCAL CHARITIES

Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea J. Cabral initiated the First Annual Suffolk County Winter Clothing Drive last month to support local organizations throughout Suffolk County. Through the generous support of Sheriff’s Department employees, more than 800 items of winter clothing and blankets were donated to local charities including, the Pine Street Inn, Rosie’s Place, the Lemuel Shattuck Shelter and Outreach and the Suffolk County Women’s Resource Center.

The newly created Office of Communications & External Affairs at the Sheriff’s Department coordinated the effort with employees and community organizations. Through close coordination with the organizations that were receiving the clothing, the Department was able to distribute the clothes efficiently.

“Sheriff’s Department employees have been incredibly giving during this clothing drive,” Sheriff Cabral said. “It has been a particularly cold winter thus far and because of the incredible generosity and concern for those less fortunate, we have helped many men, women and children stay warm. I am very proud of employees efforts on behalf of this initiative.”

Sheriff Cabral began this First Annual Winter Clothing Drive at the Sheriff’s Department to help address the great need throughout Suffolk County for winter clothing and supplies for the homeless and needy. As weather and budget conditions worsened this winter, there was an even greater need of donations from organizations for clothing and supplies.

“I anticipate that this will be the first of many successful outreach efforts to Suffolk County communities,” Sheriff Cabral said.
