The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department provides quality community
programs and services to children and young adults in Suffolk County. The
Sheriff’s Department currently offers several programs to help children
and young adults learn about criminal justice, stay out of trouble and educate
them about safety in their communities.
JAILBRAKE, modeled after the nationally acclaimed “Scared Straight” program,
continues to expose potential at-risk youth to the realities of incarceration.
With the proper balance of tough talk and compassion, the inmates and officers
provide perspective and alternatives to young adults.
Ident-A-Youth fingerprinting program works in cooperation with local law
enforcement agencies, local civic associations and schools to fingerprint
youth at educational, social, and community events.
Tours of the Suffolk County Jail The Sheriff’s Department Communications & External
Affairs Division leads tours of the Suffolk County Jail at Nashua Street
for students of all ages. These tours provide students, elementary school
through college age, a valuable educational opportunity to witness the
day-to-day operations of a correctional facility. These tours are also
offered to community and senior groups, as well as public agencies and
all those interested in taking tours.
The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department looks forward to continuing
to serve and educate children and young adults in Suffolk County.
