Choice Officer School Program

Choice Officer Program

The Choice Program is designed to encourage children to respect themselves and others while preparing for the future. In December 2005, Sheriff Cabral recruited the first team of Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department Officers to visit schools throughout Boston, Chelsea, Winthrop and Revere. In May 2007, a second group of officers were recruited to join the original team in the community. Each one of the Choice Officers has successfully completed forty hours of required training before visiting area schools within Suffolk County. Our Choice Program Officers discuss a number of topics with students, including peer pressure, making the right choices, setting goals, self respect, a civics component and the effects of CORI.

In June 2007, a Community Service Group Award was presented to the Choice Program Officers at the 10th Annual Correction Officer of the Year Awards Ceremony at the Massachusetts State House.
