Develops, updates, and supports the Department’s internal
and external websites, and creates, develops, and maintains application
databases using Microsoft Visual Basic and SQL. Performs related
work and duties as required, and is subject to assignment by the
Information Technology Manager.
Works under the general supervision of the Information Technology
Manager.
- Supervises and supports Department’s internal and
external websites. Creates and maintains web designs, including
user interfaces. Availability for 24-hour on call status.
- Manages and implements various Information Technology Department
initiatives. Responsible for successful initiation and completion
of projects, including specification and requirement definition,
testing, implementation, user training, and production support.
- Creates, develops, and maintains application databases using
Microsoft Visual Basic. Develops SQL Server databases from user
requirements. Provides necessary application user training, production-level
enhancements, application maintenance, and security.
- Maintains web site integrity. Develops and enforces content
and display standards, and edits content submissions.
- Identifies information security threats and recommends solutions.
Analyzes Department information systems methodology and storage
and effects necessary changes to upgrade the department's efficiency
and security protocols.
- Provides technical training and support for all applications
to Department staff, as assigned.
- Exercises thorough substantive knowledge of office policies,
procedures and operations of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s
Department and exercises knowledge of assigned office or division.
- Responsible for moderate to complex level of quantitative
and qualitative analysis of pertinent subject matter.
- Flexibility and ability to learn and perform new duties and
skills as assigned.
- Other duties as the Sheriff may request from time to time.
- Demonstrated knowledge of database administration, software
design, testing, implementation, and deployment of information
systems required.
- Proficiency with HTML and CSS required. Knowledge of XML preferred.
- Familiarity with industry standard web design programs (Photoshop,
Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver) required. Experience providing
technical and customer support preferred.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact with the public in a pleasant and discreet manner.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
individuals at all levels throughout the organization, in other agencies,
and in private industry. High levels of customer service, independence,
leadership and willingness to write and maintain documentation. Must perform
duties with a high degree of confidentiality.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and to work with co-workers and consultants.
Self-motivator, ability to meet project deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously
and ability to prioritize issues is essential.
- Ability to complete moderate to complex level of qualitative and quantitative
analyses. Strong analytic and problem solving skills are required. Ability
to write effectively and maintain technical documentation. Attention to
detail is crucial. Need for creativity, flexibility and organizational
skills. Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Three years of experience as a developer and/or web designer in a
Microsoft VB and SQL environment, or a combination of education, experience
and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities indicated
above. Associate or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
in a related technical field is preferred.
